The Mets Trade a Star and Embrace the Future The most expensive roster in major league history was a failure. The Mets’ superfan owner, Steven A. Cohen, committed nearly half a billion dollars this season to learn a timeless lesson easily forgotten when pursuing World Series glory: Money guarantees nothing. Early Friday morning, the Mets shipped the team’s closer, David Robertson, to the Miami Marlins for two teenage prospects. That deal signaled that the front office had lost hope, and the next one confirmed it: On Saturday, the team agreed to trade Max Scherzer, a starter destined for the Hall of Fame, to the Texas Rangers for Luisangel Acuña, the brother of Atlanta’s superstar outfielder, Ronald Acuña Jr. The agreement, which requires Scherzer to waive his no-trade clause, was confirmed on condition of anonymity by a person familiar with the negotiations who was not authorized to discuss them publicly. As part of the deal, Scherzer will exercise his $43.3 million player option for 2...

The Offspring’s Noodles On Getting Stabbed By A Fan During Live Show When a Twitter user recently recounted how The Offspring’s Noodles was once stabbed by a Nazi, the guitarist confirmed the incident with a tweet. Commenting on the matter, he wrote: “True story. It was at an anti-nuke benefit, 1989, in Hollywood. Stabbed me in the shoulder. No lasting damage. I already hated nazis. Still do.” When asked about the stabber’s reason for the action, Noodles explained: “There was a whole group of them who just decided to fuck with all the ‘peace punks.’ I went to the door to try & break up what I thought was a fight. Guy jumped at me, then jumped back when I didn’t even flinch. They were just out starting fights.” The scene took place while The Offspring was opening for Final Conflict during their ‘Ignition’ gigs. The band’s vocalist Dexter Holland talked about it in an interview with Louder in 2001. He recalled: “Some skinheads turned up to mess up their show – we were playing rig...

M Shadows Says Being An Atheist And A Believer Is Essentially Same Avenged Sevenfold released their latest album, ‘Life Is But A Dream…,’ on June 2. Recently, the band’s vocalist M. Shadows joined an interview with Rock Sound to talk about the record and discuss its religious themes while also admitting how he realized being an atheist and being a believer was essentially the same thing. During the chat, the singer said he came up with the album’s themes and title while thinking about life and what came after it. Upon that, the interviewer asked him whether the ellipsis at the end also had something to do with that thought. To answer the question, Shadows said: “Those three little dots always felt like they fit there to me, and, you know, I was one of those guys that – I’m an atheist, so I would argue with my religious friends all the time, and then, I had this 5-MeO-DMT experience, and it actually made me feel not that I was wrong or that I was right. It made me feel that it didn’t ...
